Rossington Eco-Town - Project

Rossington Eco-Town

For many years the practice has offered a “pro-bono” service to the community of Rossington. The Senior Partner, Jim Gale, spent many years as Chairman of the Rossington Business Forum and sat on various committees and working parties working for the regeneration of one of the most deprived communities in the country. He remains a member of Rossington Forward, offering expertise on planning and development matters.

Jim contributed to the preparation of a Master Plan for the regeneration of the settlement of over 11,000 people, reputed to be the biggest village in Europe. A significant idea put forward by the Practice was the suggestion that Rossington should be developed as a new town, taking advantage of the confluence of circumstance prevailing in that part of Doncaster (nearby international passenger and freight airport, proposed link road from the M18, proposed Inland Port on the outskirts of Rossington and proposed country park at Rossington Hall).

Following the Government’s announcement to champion eco-towns, we asked Doncaster Borough Council to support the concept for Rossington. This idea was taken up by UK Coal whose submission to Government in 2007, supported by the community, was accepted.

Although not in the first tranche of new towns, there remains a possibility that Rossington can secure eco-town status with the support of the council. We would prepared to continue to support this work on behalf of the community if the idea gains momentum.
